Scenic lineCaledonian Sleeper
Board in London in the evening and wake up crossing Rannoch Moor: the Highlander portion to Fort William is Britain's only scheduled scenic sleeper.
Scottish Government-owned overnight train from London Euston to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William.
The Caledonian Sleeper is the overnight service between London Euston and Scotland. It was split from the ScotRail franchise in 2015 and run by Serco until 25 June 2023, when Scottish Rail Holdings took it into public ownership on behalf of the Scottish Government.
Two trains leave Euston each night except Saturday: the Lowlander, which divides at Carstairs for Edinburgh and Glasgow, and the Highlander, which divides at Edinburgh into portions for Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William. The Fort William portion runs up the West Highland Line across Rannoch Moor after breakfast, making it the only scheduled sleeper in Britain that delivers scenery on arrival.
The Mark 5 carriages built by CAF entered service in 2019 and offer seats, Classic rooms, Club en-suite rooms and Caledonian Double rooms. Bookings open about a year ahead; fares are dynamic and shown only in the booking engine, with seats from around £54 and rooms from around £135 one way.
