Steam Dreams' short steam run from central London to Windsor, with brunch or cream tea options and time to see the castle.

The Royal Windsor Steam Express was launched by Steam Dreams as the first regular steam service between London and Windsor in modern times. Trains have run from Waterloo and, more recently, Victoria, taking about an hour and a quarter to reach Windsor & Eton Riverside beneath the castle walls.

The short journey makes it one of the cheapest ways to sample main line steam from London. Standard seats are offered alongside First Class with champagne brunch or cream tea served at the table, and passengers may travel one way or return after a few hours in Windsor.

The train has run in several recent summers but does not appear on the Steam Dreams journeys page for the rest of 2026. Check the operator's website for the next season's dates.

Before you book: charter trains depend on locomotive availability and Network Rail engineering work. Steam can be swapped for diesel at short notice, so check the operator’s terms for what happens then. When you book, ask for a seat on the side we recommend: most operators allocate seats but will note a preference.
