Steam Dreams Rail Co was set up in 1999 and built its reputation on The Cathedrals Express, a series of steam-hauled day trips from London to cathedral cities and the coast. The company is based at Shere near Guildford and since June 2022 has been part of the Locomotive Services group, which supplies most of its engines and carriages.
Trains typically leave London Victoria, Paddington or King's Cross with pick-ups in the Home Counties. Four classes are offered: Pullman Style Dining with multi-course meals at your seat, First Class, Premium Standard and Standard. Locomotives are drawn from the Locomotive Services pool, with 70000 Britannia and B1 61306 Mayflower regular performers.
The programme includes multi-day tours such as The Cornish Riviera and Edinburgh Christmas Market, festive market day trips to York and Chester, and the popular Santa Steam Express shuttles from London Victoria in December. In recent summers the company has also run The Royal Windsor Steam Express and the evening Sunset Steam Express from London.
