The Sunset Steam Express is Steam Dreams' evening dining train. Leaving London in the early evening, it heads out through the suburbs and makes a circuit of the Surrey Hills via Guildford, Dorking or Reigate before returning to the capital after dark.
The train is chiefly about the meal: Pullman Style Dining passengers sit down to a multi-course dinner with wine as the sun sets over the North Downs, while Premium Standard and Standard seats are offered with a bar service for those who simply want an evening of steam.
As with the Royal Windsor Steam Express, the train has been a summer feature in recent years but is not listed for the remainder of 2026. Watch the Steam Dreams journeys page for future dates.
Heading east along the foot of the North Downs, St Martha's Hill, Box Hill and Reigate Hill are all on the left.
Sides are given facing the direction of travel. Miles are approximate from the start of the journey.
No. Non-dining seats have been available with a bar service in past seasons.
Typically around 22:00 to 22:30 back in London.
No further 2026 dates are listed; check the operator's journeys page.
