Steam-hauled Christmas trips to Bath's Christmas Market, with the option of continuing to Bristol.

The Bath and Bristol Christmas Express runs twice in December 2026, each giving over four hours at Bath's Christmas Market or in Bristol. On 10 December the train leaves East Croydon, calls at Three Bridges, Haywards Heath, Preston Park, Hove and Worthing, and follows the West Coastway through Chichester to Southampton, then via Romsey, Salisbury and Westbury down the Avon Valley to Bath.

On 12 December it leaves London Paddington behind steam, picks up at Slough, Reading and Newbury, and follows the Berks and Hants line past Savernake summit, the Vale of Pewsey and the Westbury White Horse, then through Bradford on Avon and over the Dundas Aqueduct to Bath.

Before you book: charter trains depend on locomotive availability and Network Rail engineering work. Steam can be swapped for diesel at short notice, so check the operator’s terms for what happens then. When you book, ask for a seat on the side we recommend: most operators allocate seats but will note a preference.
