The Railway Touring Company was founded in 1997 by Nigel Dobbing and works from offices in King's Lynn, Norfolk. It does not own trains; instead it charters locomotives and carriages, mainly from West Coast Railways, and sells seats on a programme of around forty steam day trips a year plus rail holidays in Britain and abroad.
Regular favourites include The Cumbrian Mountain Express from London Euston over Shap and the Settle to Carlisle line, The Bournemouth Belle from Waterloo, The Royal Duchy from Bristol to Cornwall and a run of Christmas market trains in November and December. Three classes are normally offered: Premier Dining with silver-served meals, First Class with light refreshments and Standard Class.
The company's flagship is The Great Britain, an eight-day steam-hauled circuit of England, Wales and Scotland with hotel accommodation, now in its eighteenth edition.
