Clan Line hauls a festive train over the Golden Valley line to the Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre.

The Cotswold Christmas Venturer leaves London Victoria at about 08:15 behind Merchant Navy 35028 Clan Line, picking up at Staines and Reading and running via Didcot and the Vale of White Horse to Swindon. From there it takes the Golden Valley line past Kemble, through Sapperton Tunnel and Stroud to Standish Junction and Cheltenham Spa, where passengers may alight.

The train continues to Worcester Shrub Hill for the Victorian Christmas Fayre, one of the largest Christmas markets in the country, with the cathedral and the River Severn nearby. The return retraces the route, with the climb to Sapperton at up to 1 in 74 near Chalford.

Before you book: charter trains depend on locomotive availability and Network Rail engineering work. Steam can be swapped for diesel at short notice, so check the operator’s terms for what happens then. When you book, ask for a seat on the side we recommend: most operators allocate seats but will note a preference.
