The Sherborne Christmas Carol is an annual Railway Touring Company trip hauled by Merchant Navy 35028 Clan Line. It leaves London Victoria at about 08:45, crosses the Thames at Barnes Bridge and picks up at Staines, Woking and Basingstoke, then takes the West of England main line via Andover and Salisbury and over the single-track section beyond Wilton Junction.
Passengers can spend the day in Sherborne, the Dorset market town with its abbey, almshouse and two castles, or stay aboard to Yeovil Junction, where Clan Line is turned on the Yeovil Railway Centre turntable. The train returns by the same route.
The chalk downs of Salisbury Plain and the Nadder valley are seen from both sides, with no single-side highlight.
Sides are given facing the direction of travel. Miles are approximate from the start of the journey.
