A festive Pullman-style luncheon circuit over the Welsh Marches, past Chester and across the Cheshire Plain.

Statesman Rail's Christmas Luncheon Circular starts at Severn Tunnel Junction at 09:00 and runs over the Welsh Marches line past Shrewsbury, then through Wrexham, over the River Dee and under the Roman walls of Chester. It continues across the Cheshire Plain, with views of Beeston Castle, to Crewe before heading home.

The train's Pullman-style carriages are dressed for Christmas and a seven-course festive meal is served. The operator notes that the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Before you book: charter trains depend on locomotive availability and Network Rail engineering work. Steam can be swapped for diesel at short notice, so check the operator’s terms for what happens then. When you book, ask for a seat on the side we recommend: most operators allocate seats but will note a preference.
